What to know about permits, code and site conditions when building in the City of Canton.

The City of Canton runs its own building department, so a Canton build permits through the city rather than through Stark County. That's the first thing to get right, because the county explicitly notes that Canton, along with Alliance, Massillon and North Canton, has its own building inspection department.

Permits

The City of Canton Building / Code Enforcement Department handles building permits and offers plan review for both residential and commercial work. Canton enforces the current edition of the Residential Code of Ohio along with the Ohio Building Code, as adopted by the Ohio Board of Building Standards, and operates an online permit portal.
